The war may be over but the crisis is far from over for the children of Sri Lanka. Many are traumatised by the horrors they’ve seen. Some are wounded or have lost limbs. All are at risk from hunger, dirty water and disease. Help Sri Lankan child victims with ChildFund by making an urgent donation now. One in four children under five is severely malnourished, and many are suffering from dysentery because of dirty water. Around 8,000 children are infected with chicken pox that has raged unchecked through the camps. ChildFund, which has been helping children and families in Sri Lanka since 1985, is providing emergency relief. Your donation will provide urgent critical care like: Food Supplies – lentils & split peas; special food supplement for young children Home Kits - cooking utensils, plates, basic clothing to protect against cuts which cause infection Hygiene Kits – buckets, soap, water containers, towels Child-Centred Spaces – give traumatised children counselling, care and support Please make your donation today to help save the lives of Sri Lankan children by providing urgently needed food and basic necessities. Through ChildFund you will help the children who have suffered most through the Sri Lanka war crisis. Read how ChildFund's Child Centred Spaces are already helping children like Ruwan in Ruwan's Story. Read the November 2009 update on how ChildFund is helping children still in the camps. Background to the Crisis The reason behind this humanitarian disaster is a 25-year civil war in Sri Lanka which has claimed more than 70,000 lives and forced many more families from their homes. The fight came to a head this year when a decisive offensive by the Sri Lankan military pushed the separatist rebel army known as the Tamil Tigers into a small populated area on the north-east coast. Sri Lanka has now declared an end to its conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). But there are still around 280,000 distressed and wounded people, including children, crowded into makeshift camps. Half of these people arrived from the warzone in the past three weeks overwhelming the resources of aid agencies and local authorities. Children are the innocent victims of conflict. The war was not of their making, but they have suffered the most, and will continue to suffer without your help. Please donate now to help save the children of Sri Lanka.
