West Auckland export success and fashion house High Society passed on its good fortune by buying school uniforms and school scholarships through ChildFund for children living in poverty.
The uniforms and scholarships were donated on behalf of High Society's retailers and suppliers in lieu of traditional corporate Christmas gifts. The previous year the fashion business bought 25 sewing machines to help poor families earn an income.
Sales and Marketing Manager Desiree Keown said that the overwhelmingly positive response from retailers they received influenced their decision to purchase similar gifts again, but the main reason is still to contribute to others less fortunate.
"Everything is so consumer based, especially the fashion industry. So we wanted to continue to make a difference where it really matters. ChildFund's Gift that Grow catalogue had a particularly fitting gift for us: school uniforms. The scholarships were a natural extension to the uniforms - if you're going to clothe children, you should also make sure they can afford to attend school."
High Society, which sells the Chocolat, Mosaic, Catalyst, and Obi women's fashion boutique brands within New Zealand and internationally, donated 10 school uniforms and 10 primary school scholarships.
ChildFund New Zealand CEO Paul Brown says High Society's generous gifts have provided children with vital educational opportunities.
"New Zealand businesses are increasingly interested in using their annual corporate Christmas gift budget to do some real good and we can think of no better cause than helping make a difference to the life of a child in a developing country."
